Pokhara, Nepal
Quieter, cheaper southern end of the lake with better Annapurna views. Safe during the day but isolated after dark - budget for taxis if you want evening options. Good if you prefer peace over convenience.
At the south end of Phewa Lake where the dam is, Damside has restaurants and guesthouses but way fewer tourists than Lakeside. Mountain views are actually better - you're looking north across the full lake toward Annapurna. Prices run a bit lower. International Mountain Museum is 10 minutes away, Devi's Falls is close. The quieter atmosphere means less hustle from touts but also means you're pretty isolated after dark. It's more residential, feels less like a tourist zone. Restaurant staff speak some English but not as fluently as Lakeside. You're 15-20 minutes by taxi from the main Lakeside area, so either you're fine with quiet evenings or you'll be paying for rides north. Safe and peaceful during the day with locals going about their routines.

Hilltop village for sunrise views and paragliding launches. Most people visit on day trips or tours because staying overnight means isolation and minimal facilities.
