Interesting during the day for the history, but turns sketchy after dark with drunk tourists and aggressive dealers. Solo women should avoid evenings - too many inappropriate guys and pickpockets.

During the day it's just another historic neighborhood with tourists taking selfies, but after 8 PM it becomes a different world. The narrow alleys fill with drunk bachelor parties, aggressive street dealers pushing drugs, and men who get increasingly inappropriate as the night goes on. Casa Rosso and the live sex shows attract the worst crowds - groups of drunk guys who think everything is fair game. Police patrol on horseback but they can't be everywhere at once. Street dealers will follow you trying to sell cocaine and magic mushrooms, and pickpockets work the crowds of distracted tourists. The coffeeshops are fine during the day but sketchy characters hang around them at night.
