Wellington, New Zealand
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Wellington.
Historic residential area with Victorian houses, close to CBD and waterfront. Safe during the day. Some side streets dark at night. Good if you want residential feel with access to central areas.
Old residential area on the western side of the hill. Victorian cottages and wooden houses, some well-maintained. Close to Courtenay Place (5 min), Cuba Street (10 min), waterfront (15 min). More local and residential than Te Aro - longtime residents and young professionals. Oriental Parade at the base has a beach and waterfront promenade good for walks. The Mount Victoria Lookout has city and harbor views - it's a decent hike up. Safe during the day. Some side streets are narrow and poorly lit at night, so stick to main roads like Majoribanks Street or take a taxi.
