What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Wellington.
Historic government area with old buildings and quiet atmosphere. Very safe, close to city center, but almost no nightlife.
Government and diplomatic area with Parliament buildings and old wooden houses from the 1800s. Weekdays it's full of parliamentary staff and embassy workers at Molesworth Street cafes. Evenings and weekends it's quiet. Saturday mornings there's a farmers' market. Tinakori Road has small shops and cafes in old buildings - kind of village-like. Safe to walk around because of embassy security and good lighting. The Botanic Garden is close by, accessible via cable car. About 15 minutes walk to the city center. Good if you want quiet and don't care about nightlife.
