Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Bergen

What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Bergen.

Summary

Bergen's working city center with a mix of local life and tourist access. Safe, good public transport, plenty of cafes, and more reasonable prices than the waterfront. Makes sense as a base for most people.

Details

Sentrum is Bergen's actual city center where locals live and work. The area around Ole Bulls plass and Torgallmenningen stays busy from early morning through late evening with people grabbing coffee, shopping, or meeting friends after work. You'll see locals working alone in cafes on laptops, families shopping, and office workers heading for drinks. English is widely spoken. The main shopping street Torgallmenningen connects to Skostredet, where restaurants and bars line a pedestrian street that gets busy on weekend nights. Public transport is good - bus stops and the Bybanen light rail run through here. Street lighting works well, and you'll see people out late at night, especially in summer when it stays light until nearly 11pm. The Bergen Public Library has comfortable work spaces with free Wi-Fi where locals of all ages hang out. A practical base if you want access to everything without paying tourist-area prices.
