Oslo, Norway
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Oslo.
Downtown core with walkable access to major attractions. Convenient but the Central Station area gets sketchy at night.
Oslo's downtown core. The main shopping street Karl Johans gate runs from the Royal Palace to Central Station, passing the Parliament and National Theatre. Everything is walkable - museums, shops, restaurants, hotels all concentrated here. Well-lit and stays active into the evening. The area includes several smaller districts: historic Kvadraturen with its old street grid and galleries, Torggata with restaurants and bars, and Tullinløkka north of Royal Palace Park with second-hand shops. English is standard in this tourist area. Eating alone is normal with options from cheap international food to expensive Norwegian restaurants. The streets around Central Station get sketchy late at night - there's an open drug scene. The station itself has security. Stick to main streets after dark.
