Asunción, Paraguay
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Asunción.
Villa Morra has the most restaurants and cafes in Asunción with good security and an international crowd. You'll pay more than other neighborhoods, but it's the safest option with the most English speakers and dining variety.
Villa Morra is Asunción's upscale neighborhood with the most restaurants and cafes. The area around Shopping del Sol and Paseo La Galería stays busy with young professionals, expats, and university students, so it has more of an international feel than other parts of the city. You'll see women sitting alone in cafes with laptops or books - nobody will bother you. English is more common here since many places cater to expats, though you still can't count on it everywhere. Police patrol regularly and the street lighting is good. The area stays active until around 11pm on weeknights and past midnight on weekends, but stick to the main commercial streets, not the residential side streets. You'll pay more for everything here - it's the expensive part of town. The trade-off is better safety and more dining options, from Paraguayan food to international cuisine.
