Lima, Peru
Lima's artsy nightlife district with street murals and younger crowd. Less secure than Miraflores but manageable if you Uber at night and avoid dark side streets.
Barranco has street art everywhere and a younger, artsy crowd compared to Miraflores. Musicians play in the plazas on weekends, and the cafes get people camping out for hours. The Bridge of Sighs area stays busy during the day with tourists taking photos. At night it turns into Lima's main nightlife zone - rooftop bars, clubs, young Peruvians and expats drinking. Security exists but it's lighter than Miraflores. Main streets have police patrols, but outer areas get dark and quiet after midnight. Take Uber back from bars instead of walking through side streets. Eating alone fits with the scene here - lots of people sketching or writing over meals. English works in the trendy spots but drops off in more local places.
