Kraków, Poland
This is the main tourist zone with the most infrastructure and English speakers. It stays busy until late and feels safe to walk around. You'll pay more for everything, but you get convenience and access to the medieval center.
The Old Town centers on Rynek Główny, supposedly the largest medieval market square in Europe. During the day you'll find street performers, horse-drawn carriages, and outdoor cafes - it's the full tourist experience. The cafe culture means seeing people alone with laptops or books is normal. Planty Park circles the area with a 4km walking path that connects the major sights. Street lighting is good and police patrol regularly, so it feels safe late at night. Most shops and restaurants have English-speaking staff. Prices are higher here than other neighborhoods because of the tourist traffic. The vibe shifts from sightseeing during the day to the restaurant and bar crowd at night.
