Warsaw, Poland
The main tourist area with good infrastructure and lots of English speakers. More expensive than other neighborhoods but convenient for first-time visitors. Safe to walk around at night in the central parts.
Most tourists stay in Śródmieście - it covers the Old Town and spreads south through shopping streets and business districts. The Palace of Culture building is tall enough to use as a landmark from almost anywhere. You'll find the most hotels, restaurants, and English speakers here. Nowy Świat street has cafes and shops that stay open late. It's busy most evenings with street performers and students. Plenty of foot traffic, good lighting, and regular police presence. The Old Town reconstruction is impressive but feels touristy, especially around the main square. Side streets are quieter. Metro stations connect to everywhere else, and you can walk to most major sights. Prices are higher than outer neighborhoods. Restaurant staff often treat you like a typical tourist.
