Warsaw, Poland
Rebuilt historic center with full tourist infrastructure and English-speaking staff. High prices to match. Safe but gets very crowded during the day. Limited nightlife - mostly a daytime sightseeing area.
The Old Town was completely destroyed in WWII and rebuilt using old paintings as guides - it's a UNESCO site now. The colorful buildings around the main square look nice but house tourist restaurants and cafes with matching prices. Gets crowded with tour groups during the day, especially at lunch and dinner. Lots of street performers. The cobblestone streets pack with people but that also means it feels safe. Restaurant staff speak English and deal with tourists all day - menus are in multiple languages. Empties out in the evening when tour groups leave. The area stays well-lit at night. For anything less touristy you need to go to side streets or other neighborhoods. Easy to walk to the rest of central Warsaw from here.
