San Juan, Puerto Rico
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in San Juan.
International resort beach with chain hotels and good sand. Very safe and English-friendly, minimal local culture.
International hotel chains line the beach. Think Miami Beach with some Puerto Rican touches - turquoise water, white sand, hotels with pools and restaurants, tourists from everywhere. The beach is the point - water sports, beach bars, good swimming and paddleboarding. Right next to the airport so convenient for flying in and out. The Hyatt Centric opened in December 2025 with access to Vivo Beach Club - pools, restaurants, brewery, concert venue. It feels American and tourist-focused. English everywhere, high prices, everything designed for international visitors. Safe with hotel security, lit beachfront, regular police patrols. Easy for dining alone at hotel restaurants, meeting travelers at beach bars, relaxed vibe. Ocean Breeze is the only oceanfront bar, Mediterranean food with sunset views. At night most activity stays around hotel properties, not much street life. Not authentic Puerto Rico, but safe and comfortable with English if that's what you want.
