Belgrade, Serbia
The club and warehouse district. Good nightlife, gritty industrial feel, but streets are empty during the day and late at night. Take a taxi home rather than walking.
Savamala is the club district - former industrial area with warehouses converted to clubs, bars, and cultural spaces. In winter when the river clubs close, this is where nightlife moves. It's gritty and underground-feeling rather than polished. During the day it's quiet and can feel empty, which some find sketchy. At night when the crowds show up it's fine. If you're out late, take a taxi home rather than walking through empty streets at 4am.

Communist-era district with malls, business centers, and summer river clubs. Residential blocks have more crime than central Belgrade - stick to commercial areas and take taxis at night. Come for the splavovi but probably don't stay here.
The creative/hipster neighborhood with specialty coffee shops, galleries, and bars. Safe, good English, and sitting alone is normal. Nightlife is more relaxed than Savamala's club scene.
The main tourist area with the fortress, Skadarlija restaurants, and pedestrian shopping street. English is common, safe to walk around, best selection of traditional food and nightlife. Keep an eye on your stuff in crowded spots.
