Belgrade, Serbia
The main tourist area with the fortress, Skadarlija restaurants, and pedestrian shopping street. English is common, safe to walk around, best selection of traditional food and nightlife. Keep an eye on your stuff in crowded spots.
The old town covers the fortress, the main pedestrian street (Knez Mihailova), and the restaurant strip of Skadarlija. Most tourists stay here because everything is walkable and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Streets stay busy until late and are well-lit. The traditional restaurants in Skadarlija have live music most nights and eating alone is normal. Main issue is pickpockets on the crowded pedestrian streets - keep your phone and wallet secure in busy spots.
