Summary

Upscale residential area with Saint Sava Temple and the main market. Safe, good restaurants, quieter nights. Better for experiencing local life than staying near tourist spots.

Details

Vračar is the upscale residential area. The massive Saint Sava Temple draws visitors, but otherwise this is where educated locals live, not where tourists usually hang out. Tree-lined streets, Kalenić Market (biggest open-air market in the city), and good restaurants from traditional to international. It's a 20-25 minute walk to the old town. Very safe and gives you a sense of how locals actually live, but less happening at night than the center.
