A former fishing village ten minutes from the Old Town with cottages, gardens, and a few good traditional restaurants. Quiet and residential with an artistic community. Dead in the evenings.
Krakovo is an old fishing village that never got modernized, just south of the city center along the Gradaščica canal. Ten minutes from the Old Town on foot but feels like a different place - quiet, residential, two-story cottages with gardens where people grow vegetables. Artists live in many of the houses. The Krakovo Embankment and streets along the canal are good spots to sit and read away from tourists. Vodnik Square has an open-air market with fresh produce. A few restaurants worth mentioning: Pri Škofu does traditional Slovenian food at reasonable prices, family-owned. Harambasa is more unusual - antiques everywhere, serving Bosnian pub food. Evenings are quiet when locals go home. Safe to walk around but lighting isn't as bright as the center. Not much happening after dark.
