Haeundae is the easiest base for a first visit to Busan, with the beach, cafes, markets and subway all close together. The trade-off is crowds in summer and noise around the nightclubs late at night.
Haeundae is Busan's best-known beach district and the easiest base for a first visit. The wide beach, the cafes on the Dalmaji-gil hillside and the Haeundae Market food stalls are all within a short walk of each other. Streets stay busy and well lit until late, with families and couples in the day and groups of friends at night. Several hostels and guesthouses have female-only dorms, and staff at tourist-facing places speak some English. Eating alone is easy, especially at the market stalls and counter-style restaurants. The blocks around the nightclubs get noisy late at night and drunk crowds are the main nuisance, so get back by taxi or along the main streets. Away from the promenade the beach itself is dark and empty at night. In summer the whole area is packed.

Gwangalli is calmer and more local than Haeundae, with some of the best night views in the city. The subway is a short walk or bus ride away, so a late return needs some planning.
Seomyeon is the best-connected base in Busan, with food, shopping and cafes on every block. The nightlife blocks get rowdy late, so it works better if you go out in the day or with a group in the evening.
Nampo is the best area in Busan for eating and wandering, with markets, street food and sea views within a short walk. It is quieter in the evening than the beach districts, so it suits day trips better than a late night out.
