Nampo is the best area in Busan for eating and wandering, with markets, street food and sea views within a short walk. It is quieter in the evening than the beach districts, so it suits day trips better than a late night out.
Nampo is the old harbour centre and the main area for street food and seafood. BIFF Square, Gukje Market, the Jagalchi Fish Market and the Gwangbok-ro shopping street are all a short walk from Nampo station, and Yongdusan Park with Busan Tower is a flat climb away. Days are very busy, with stalls, shoppers and tourists everywhere, and it feels safe. Food stalls and market restaurants are used to people eating alone. Streets empty out earlier in the evening than in the beach districts, and the market lanes and alleys get quiet once the stalls close, so eat early and head back by main roads or taxi. Nampo is also a base for hillside villages such as Gamcheon and Huinnyeoul, which are best visited in daylight.

Seomyeon is the best-connected base in Busan, with food, shopping and cafes on every block. The nightlife blocks get rowdy late, so it works better if you go out in the day or with a group in the evening.
Haeundae is the easiest base for a first visit to Busan, with the beach, cafes, markets and subway all close together. The trade-off is crowds in summer and noise around the nightclubs late at night.
Gwangalli is calmer and more local than Haeundae, with some of the best night views in the city. The subway is a short walk or bus ride away, so a late return needs some planning.
