El Limonar is a leafy, upscale residential neighbourhood just north-east of the centre, with early-20th-century villas, plane-tree-lined streets and hillside gardens. It's one of the calmer and safer parts of the city, popular with locals and long-stay visitors who want quiet after a day of sightseeing. Neighbourhood cafés, bakeries and small tapas bars line Paseo de Reding and Paseo de Sancha, and La Caleta beach and the bullring are close. There's no real nightlife, and it's quiet in the evening, but the old town is a 15-minute walk or a short taxi ride away. Some English is spoken in cafés and hotels, but locals mostly speak Spanish.
