Zanzibar, Tanzania
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Zanzibar.
Jambiani has authentic village life on tidal beaches without Paje's crowds and development. Safe and quiet, good for peace and seeing local culture rather than nightlife.
Right next to Paje but feels completely different - quieter, less developed, more local. Same tidal beaches and sunrises without the kitesurfing scene and beach parties. The village is still a real fishing community. You'll see women farming seaweed in the tidal pools at low tide, a traditional practice here. Pace is slow and peaceful. Attracts people who want to decompress rather than party. Small local restaurants and a few hotel spots for eating. Staff may speak less English than Paje but make the effort to communicate. This is more 'real Zanzibar' than tourist Zanzibar - you'll see locals doing daily life, not just tourism workers. Village is small and tight-knit so everyone knows everyone, which feels safe. Less development means fewer lights and resort security, but also fewer tourists and less crime. Red Monkey bar does Monday live music that pulls locals and some travelers. For authentic village life with beaches and no need for constant activity, this works if you want peace.
