Zanzibar, Tanzania
10 uncomfortable travel moments most of us run into at some point. Our guide shows you exactly how to respond to each one, so you never blank when it matters. Used by women from 50+ countries.
Kendwa has all-day swimming like Nungwi but with a wider beach and fewer crowds. Safe and more relaxed than Nungwi, though fewer restaurants.
Just south of Nungwi, Kendwa has the same all-day swimming advantage but with less crowding. The beach is wider with more space, fewer vendors bothering you, fewer beach bars packed together. Still has a social scene - Kendwa Rocks does big full moon parties and Saturday beach gatherings that pull crowds from across the island - but daytime is much quieter. You can find your own space on the beach without feeling isolated. Resorts run slightly more upscale than Nungwi's hostels, so more couples and older travelers mixed with the party people. English widely spoken, restaurant staff used to people eating alone. Security is good with resort guards and police patrols. Trade-off: fewer restaurant choices than Nungwi. You'll probably eat at your hotel or walk 15 minutes to Nungwi for variety. If you want swimmable beaches without constant activity, this balances it better than Nungwi.
