Bangkok, Thailand
Sukhumvit has good restaurants, shopping, and transport connections, but you need to be careful about which part you choose. The higher-numbered sois are safer and more residential, while the lower numbers (especially around Nana) can be sketchy.
Sukhumvit Road stretches across Bangkok with BTS stations connecting different areas, but safety varies dramatically depending on where you are. Avoid the Nana and Asok BTS areas (around Soi 4 and Soi 21) where red light districts operate with aggressive touts - solo female travelers will find this uncomfortable and potentially unsafe. The safer parts start around Soi 31 and higher, where you'll find family-friendly restaurants, upscale malls like Terminal 21, EmQuartier, and Emporium. These shopping areas have good security and air-conditioned walkways connecting them. Expat areas like Soi 11 and Soi 33 are more comfortable for solo women because they have international restaurants with English-speaking staff and a more western atmosphere. Stick to the higher-numbered sois and use Grab between areas rather than walking at night, especially if you're unfamiliar with the exact locations.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Silom is convenient for transport and has good restaurants and nightlife, but you need to be aware of the nearby red light district. It's fine during business hours when it's busy with office workers, but some areas get seedier at night.
Sathorn gives you a mix of traditional Bangkok and modern business district vibes. It's safe with good dining options, and feels more authentic than the tourist areas while still being secure.
Pratunam is good for budget shopping and has a local feel. The constant crowds and activity make it feel safe, and the 24-hour market vibe means there's always something happening. Transport connections are good too.
