Klong Muang is quiet and low on hassle, with good sunsets, but remote in the evenings. It suits a restful stay as long as transport is arranged in advance.
Klong Muang is a long, quiet beach north-west of Ao Nang with resorts, small restaurants and a few beach bars. Families and couples make up most of the guests, and it suits anyone who wants space and a slower pace. There is no nightlife strip, and the roads and beach are dark and empty in the evenings, so most people eat at their hotel or a beachfront restaurant and leave by taxi. Almost everything else needs transport. Ao Nang and the island boats are a short drive away, and resorts often arrange shuttles. Hassle is low for women on their own, but isolation after dark is the main issue, so pick a hotel with a restaurant and arrange rides in advance.

Railay is a relaxed place to stay for a few nights, with little street harassment and a sociable traveller crowd. It is expensive, remote at night and dependent on boats, so allow for the weather and the unlit paths.
Krabi Town is a calm, inexpensive base with good markets and food. Hassle is low, but it is quiet at night and a ride away from the beaches.
Ao Nang is the most convenient and social base in Krabi, with plenty of restaurants and tours and a fairly mild nightlife. It works well for a first visit. The downsides are higher prices, a commercial main strip, and tout and rental scams.
