Tunis, Tunisia
Ultra-modern, ultra-safe business district with embassies, shopping malls, and international hotels. Good for business travelers or those prioritizing safety over authenticity, but lacks cultural character.
Tunis's modern business district built around a man-made lake, where glass office towers, luxury hotels, and upscale shopping malls replace historical character. The neighborhood attracts business travelers and wealthy Tunisians rather than traditional tourists. Both the US and UK embassies are located here, which means excellent security and well-maintained infrastructure. You'll find international chain restaurants, modern cafes with reliable WiFi, and shopping centers like Tunisia Mall. It's safe to walk around at any time with security guards at most buildings and well-lit streets. The atmosphere is sterile and feels like any business district worldwide rather than authentically Tunisian, but that translates to comfort and familiarity if you prioritize safety over cultural immersion. English is more commonly spoken here than elsewhere since international businesses operate in the area. The downside is lack of character - you're essentially in a modern development that could be anywhere. Good as a safe base if you're here for business or want maximum security, but head to the Medina, La Marsa, or Sidi Bou Said for actual Tunisian culture.

Upscale historical neighborhood built around ancient ruins. Extremely safe for history lovers, though limited dining and nightlife mean most visitors explore during the day and head elsewhere for evenings.
Tunisia's most photogenic village with blue and white architecture and Mediterranean views. Very safe, though steep hills and more of a day trip than a base location.
The upscale beach suburb with a relaxed Mediterranean vibe, cafes, and low crime. It's far from historical sites but the most comfortable westernized area in Tunis.
