Tunis, Tunisia
Tunisia's most photogenic village with blue and white architecture and Mediterranean views. Very safe, though steep hills and more of a day trip than a base location.
The postcard village perched on a cliff where every building is white with bright blue doors by local law. During the day it gets crowded with tour groups visiting Café des Nattes and browsing handicraft shops, but everyone leaves by early evening. Locals are used to seeing women walking around independently and dining alone at the cliffside cafes since it's so tourist-oriented. The steep cobblestone streets mean you'll get a workout, but the Mediterranean views are worth it. Police presence is visible near the main square. It's more of a daytime destination than somewhere to spend multiple days, but the romantic atmosphere makes it essential on any Tunis itinerary. The TGM train connects it directly to downtown Tunis, La Marsa, and Carthage.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Upscale historical neighborhood built around ancient ruins. Extremely safe for history lovers, though limited dining and nightlife mean most visitors explore during the day and head elsewhere for evenings.
Ultra-modern, ultra-safe business district with embassies, shopping malls, and international hotels. Good for business travelers or those prioritizing safety over authenticity, but lacks cultural character.
The upscale beach suburb with a relaxed Mediterranean vibe, cafes, and low crime. It's far from historical sites but the most comfortable westernized area in Tunis.
