Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Abu Dhabi.
Central location with historic Qasr Al Hosn, malls, and more local atmosphere. Affordable but less polished. Stick to main streets after dark.
Central Abu Dhabi along Corniche Road East (formerly called Tourist Club Area). Mix of old and new - traditional souks next to modern towers, local restaurants next to chains, and Abu Dhabi Mall with 200+ stores. Qasr Al Hosn (18th-century palace and fort) is the historic anchor here. More local feel than resort areas - Emirati families, expats, budget travelers. Zayed The First Street connects to the historic Al Hosn district. English is less common than in tourist zones, but malls and main restaurants are fine. Service workers and young professionals eat alone at affordable restaurants, so solo dining is normal. Safe during the day with police near Corniche and historic sites. After dark, stick to well-lit main streets and the Corniche - some side streets empty out. Abu Dhabi Mall stays active until 10pm. About 30 minutes from the airport, central for exploring other areas. Good if you want affordable accommodation near both cultural sites and modern amenities. Less polished than resort zones.
