Glasgow, United Kingdom
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Glasgow.
Shopping district with good daytime safety and transport connections. Gets rowdy at night - better to go to West End or Finnieston for evening activities.
The shopping area around Buchanan Street - department stores, high street chains, pedestrianized streets. George Square is the main plaza. You'll find museums and places like The Ivy and Sticks'n'Sushi for dining. Very safe during the day with lots of people and police around. The advantage of staying here is proximity to both train stations (Central and Queen Street) for day trips around Scotland. At night it changes - Sauchiehall Street after 10 PM and Argyle Street near Central Station get rowdy with drunk people and alcohol-related issues. If you're staying centrally, go to West End or Finnieston for dinner and evening drinks rather than hanging around the city center at night. Stick to main, well-lit shopping streets if you are out late.
