Details

The River Arts District runs along the French Broad River through former industrial and warehouse buildings. It holds a large cluster of working artist studios, galleries, murals, breweries and restaurants. Daytime is the best time to go, when the studios are open and you can watch artists at work. Walking between buildings is easy enough, but the district stretches along a long road with a mix of active buildings and empty lots. Evening activity centers on a few restaurants and taprooms, and the streets between them can be dark and quiet. The area sits on the river floodplain and has flooded in the past, so check conditions and which studios and businesses are open before you go.
