South Congress is a walkable area for shopping, eating and live music. It is more relaxed than downtown, but side streets get quiet at night.
South Congress is a strip of boutiques, vintage stores, food trucks, hotels and live music clubs just south of Lady Bird Lake. Sidewalks are wide, shops and restaurants stay open late and the crowd is a mix of tourists and locals, which makes it one of the easier areas for women on their own. The street is busy until the evening, and bars and music venues run later. Patios are plentiful and solo diners are common. A few side streets are quiet and dim after dark, so stay on the main avenue and take a rideshare at night. Parking is tight and cars are sometimes broken into, so keep valuables out of sight if you drive. It is a more relaxed base than downtown.
