Fenway-Kenmore is lively and student-friendly, with major museums and baseball, and reasonable safety on main streets. Game and event crowds bring rowdiness and pickpockets, and the park and side streets are best avoided after dark.
Fenway Park, the campus streets of Boston University and two big museums, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, are all in Fenway-Kenmore. It skews young, with lots of students, sports fans and bars, and the streets around Kenmore Square and Lansdowne Street are packed on game nights and event evenings. The crowds make it feel busy and safe, but they also bring rowdy drinkers and pickpockets. On non-event nights the area is calm and residential, and some side streets near the Fens park are dark and empty, so stay away from the park at night. Kenmore Square has Green Line service, Fenway station is next to the ballpark, and Back Bay is a short walk east.

The South End is Boston's strongest neighborhood for food, art and LGBTQ+ nightlife, and is comfortable along the main streets for women on their own. It changes quickly from block to block, and the Mass Ave and Melnea Cass edge is best avoided at night.
The North End is atmospheric, walkable and generally safe for women on their own, with some of Boston's best food. Waits at popular places are long, and the streets away from Hanover Street get quiet at night.
The Seaport is modern, clean and comfortable for women on their own, with good seafood, rooftop bars and the ICA. It lacks the historic character of other neighborhoods and is expensive, and some streets are empty late at night.
