The South End is a district of breweries, roasteries and studios that's easy by day and early evening. It's more spread out than downtown, so plan on a ride rather than walking the long industrial blocks late at night.
Breweries, galleries, studios and roasteries fill the former warehouses and industrial buildings along Pine Street in the South End, Burlington's arts district. It's spread out, with wide roads and long blocks, so it's better by bike or a short ride than on foot after dark. By day and early evening the main strip is busy with locals at breweries and coffee shops, and solo visitors get treated like anyone else. At night some stretches are quiet and industrial with little foot traffic between venues, so get dropped off and picked up at the door. The residential streets nearer the lake are calm. An annual arts event each September centers on the area.

Downtown and Church Street are where most of Burlington's dining and nightlife is. Days and evenings are easy for anyone on their own, though the side streets and parks feel less pleasant late at night once the crowds thin out.
The waterfront is the most scenic part of Burlington and one of the easiest areas to be on your own, with plenty of people around in daylight and early evening. Late at night the path gets quiet, so stay near the lit restaurant stretch.
The Old North End is Burlington's most culturally mixed neighborhood, with the best-value food in the city and a friendly daytime feel. It turns residential in the evening, so take a ride after dark and stay on the main avenues.
