Chicago, United States
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Chicago.
Historic area with Victorian architecture and nightlife, home to Second City comedy theater. Safe and walkable with varied restaurants. Good if you want entertainment and historic character.
Old Town is just north of downtown with Victorian architecture and nightlife along Wells Street. Known for Second City comedy theater where comedians like Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Murray got started. During the day it has a quieter feel with tree-lined streets, old homes, and small shops. Restaurants range from Twin Anchors BBQ (Sinatra used to go there) to French dining at Petite Edith to pizza places. Wells Street has the bars, restaurants, and Old Town Ale House with its weird eclectic artwork. Mix of tourists seeing Second City, young professionals at bars, and older residents in the historic homes. Safe and walkable with good lighting, especially when comedy shows let out. Between downtown and Lincoln Park, so well-connected but has its own character. Easy to eat alone at restaurants here. Seeing an improv show at Second City is a classic Chicago thing to do.
