Chicago, United States
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Chicago.
Main food destination with high-end restaurants and cocktail bars in old warehouse buildings. Safe and walkable. Good if you care about dining and want something more local than downtown.
West Loop used to be industrial warehouses, now it's Chicago's main food area. Randolph Street ('Restaurant Row') has Michelin-starred restaurants, celebrity chef places, and cocktail bars in converted warehouses with exposed brick. Attracts people who care about food and young professionals who want to live near good restaurants. During the day you'll see people working at creative agencies and tech companies in the old lofts, getting coffee at Sawada or La Colombe. At night it's a dining destination - Girl & the Goat, Lena Brava, and Alla Vita book up weeks ahead. The old warehouse architecture is still visible - high ceilings, big windows, loft buildings. Safe area with growing residential population, good lighting, and foot traffic around restaurants. Gets quieter late when restaurants close but doesn't feel unsafe. Randolph Street Market (vintage and antiques) happens some Sundays. Just across the river from downtown, so convenient but feels more local than the Loop or River North.
