LoDo and Union Station are the most convenient base in Denver, with the airport train, restaurants and nightlife close by. It is polished and touristy, and costs reflect that. Stick to the busy streets after dark and use rideshare for longer walks.

Details

LoDo (Lower Downtown) is Denver's old warehouse district, with Union Station at its center. It is the easiest base for a first visit: the airport train arrives here, restaurants and bars fill the old brick buildings, and Coors Field and Larimer Square are close. Union Station, the Dairy Block and Larimer Square stay busy in the evening, so sitting alone with a drink or a book is unremarkable. Stay on the busy main streets at night. Some side streets and the blocks toward Broadway and Park Avenue empty out, and people experiencing homelessness gather near some transit areas. Pickpocketing is not a major issue, but car break-ins are, so never leave anything visible in a vehicle.
