Summerlin is the quiet suburban option, with low crime and easy access to Red Rock Canyon. There is little nightlife or street life, and you will need a car or rideshare for almost everything.
Summerlin is a planned suburban community on the west side of the valley, about 20 minutes by car from the Strip. It has tree-lined streets, parks and trails, and the Downtown Summerlin and Tivoli Village shopping and dining districts. Crime is much lower than in the tourist core, and the area is calm and residential, which suits anyone who wants quiet instead of casinos. The downside is that it is built for cars, with little street life after dark and few places to walk to. Rideshare to and from the Strip is easy but the cost adds up over a longer stay. Red Rock Canyon is a short drive away and is the most popular outdoor day trip from the city.

Chinatown is where to eat well for less in Las Vegas, and it is quieter and more local than the Strip. Treat it as a meal stop and use rideshare to and from your hotel.
The Strip is the easiest place in Las Vegas to be out alone at night, since it is crowded, patrolled and built for visitors. Expect drunk crowds, hustlers and high prices, and use rideshare for long distances.
The Arts District is the most local and relaxed part of central Las Vegas, with coffee, food and breweries. It is small and works best in the afternoon and early evening, with rideshare to get there and back.
