Downtown is the most convenient area for sightseeing and rides, with museums, theaters and the riverfront close together. Evenings vary block to block, so plan the route and take a ride after shows end.
Downtown covers the office towers of Nicollet Mall, the theaters of Hennepin Avenue and the old flour-mill district on the river. During the day it's easy to get around, and the skyway network lets you move between blocks indoors. In the evening it splits in two: the Mill District and the theater and stadium areas are busy on show and game nights, while other blocks go quiet as soon as offices close. Around Hennepin Avenue and some light rail stops, late nights can feel rough, with people hanging around and drinking, so plan a ride home rather than walking. The daytime sights are good for exploring alone.
