Uptown is a walkable area for cafes, lakes and casual dining, with a livelier bar scene on weekends. It works best for daytime exploring, and late nights call for a ride home.
Uptown and the neighboring Lyn-Lake district lie just west of downtown, next to the Chain of Lakes, with a dense strip of restaurants, shops and bars along Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street. The crowd is young and casual, with plenty of walkers and cyclists in warm weather and a busy bar scene on weekends. By day it's easy to wander alone, with cafes and a lakeside path a short walk away. Late on weekends the main strip gets rowdy and there's a lot of heavy drinking, so think about your route and your ride home. The lakes are busy in summer but quiet after dark, so keep to lit paths.
