A diverse neighborhood built around affordable global food and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Stay on Nicollet Avenue at night and take a ride for anything on the side streets.
Whittier is a dense, diverse neighborhood south of downtown. It holds the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Eat Street, the stretch of Nicollet Avenue lined with restaurants from around the world. Apartments and older brick buildings sit alongside the food scene, and the crowd is young and mixed. By day there are museums and cafes, and in the evening the restaurants stay busy until fairly late. Away from Nicollet Avenue the side streets are quiet, and some blocks feel run-down, with people hanging around outside late at night. It's a good choice for solo diners who want affordable, varied food and a more local feel than downtown.

A quiet, arts-oriented neighborhood next to downtown, with a strong LGBTQ+ presence and cafes that suit solo visitors. Stick to lit main streets and don't cut through the park late at night.
Uptown is a walkable area for cafes, lakes and casual dining, with a livelier bar scene on weekends. It works best for daytime exploring, and late nights call for a ride home.
Downtown is the most convenient area for sightseeing and rides, with museums, theaters and the riverfront close together. Evenings vary block to block, so plan the route and take a ride after shows end.
