New Orleans, United States
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in New Orleans.
Residential neighborhood with City Park, local restaurants, and lower prices. Safe during the day but too quiet at night - use rideshare. You'll travel to other areas for nightlife.
Mid-City is where locals live and work. Neighborhood restaurants with big portions at reasonable prices, coffee shops where people know each other, families doing grocery shopping. City Park has the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, NOMA (New Orleans Museum of Art), and old oak trees over walking paths. Families come during the day, joggers in early morning. The Canal Street Streetcar connects to downtown for $1.50. Areas near City Park feel safe during the day with residential foot traffic. Around Bayou St. John there are cafes and restaurants where eating alone is normal. Mid-City is spread out and residential. Once the sun sets and families go inside, you're walking through quiet streets with limited lighting. It's a stable residential neighborhood, but you won't find the activity and police presence of the French Quarter. Use Uber or Lyft at night, especially if you're more than a few blocks from commercial areas. Good for seeing New Orleans beyond tourist areas, but you'll spend time traveling to nightlife districts.
