Chelsea is trendy and artsy with the High Line park drawing crowds during the day and galleries scattered throughout the neighborhood. It's generally safe and has a good mix of locals and tourists, plus the High Line stays busy until evening which creates foot traffic. Chelsea Market is always packed with people grabbing food, making that area feel secure. The Meatpacking District gets pretty lively at night with clubs and rooftop bars, so there are usually people around, but it can attract a party crowd that might be drunk and loud. The residential streets are quiet but well-lit, and you'll see lots of young professionals and art types. Your biggest concern is just avoiding the party chaos on weekend nights in the Meatpacking area if that's not your scene.
