SoHo offers high-end shopping and cast-iron architecture in a historic district that's bustling during the day but quiet at night when stores close.
SoHo is all about shopping in beautiful cast-iron buildings, but it has this weird vibe where it's packed during the day and dead at night. During shopping hours it's totally safe - tons of people browsing the stores and galleries, security guards, and good foot traffic. But once the stores close around 9pm, it gets eerily quiet for such a central neighborhood. The cobblestone streets are gorgeous but murder on your feet if you're wearing heels. You'll see lots of well-dressed women shopping alone during the day, and the area feels upscale and secure. Just plan to be somewhere else for dinner since most of the energy disappears after the shopping day ends.
