Thornton Park is a small residential neighborhood with patios, bars and a bakery, close to Lake Eola. It is one of the easiest places in Orlando to walk, eat alone and have a drink in the evening, though the side streets are quiet late at night.
Just east of Lake Eola, Thornton Park is a small neighborhood of brick streets and historic homes, and it is the easiest place in the city to eat, drink and wander on foot after dark. Washington Street and the blocks around it have sidewalk cafes, wine bars, a bakery and neighborhood pubs that stay busy into the evening. Many of the people out are residents from the surrounding homes and condos, which gives it a settled feel. A solo diner at the bar or on a patio doesn't stand out. Parking is tight on weekends, so rideshare is the easier way in and out. Away from Washington Street the streets are quiet, so keep to the main stretch after midnight.

College Park is a quiet, local neighborhood with independent cafes and pubs on Edgewater Drive, and it is a safe place to stay. It suits travelers who want a calm base rather than a party scene. The trade-off is limited nightlife and a need for rideshare to get around.
International Drive is a busy, well-lit tourist strip with hotels, restaurants and attractions close at hand. It has little local character and is not pleasant on foot, but it is practical and generally safe, especially around ICON Park and Pointe Orlando.
Winter Park is a calm, upscale, walkable town with museums, shops and sidewalk dining, and it feels safer and quieter than central Orlando. It is expensive and quiet at night, but it works well for a relaxed, low-stress stay.
