Arcadia is a calm, upscale residential area with good patios and quick access to hiking. It is among the more comfortable areas for women traveling alone, as long as you have transport.
Arcadia is a residential neighborhood at the foot of Camelback Mountain, with citrus trees, ranch houses and a cluster of cafes and restaurants along 40th Street, Campbell Avenue and Camelback Road. Streets are calm, with families, joggers and a daytime cafe crowd, and it is one of the more comfortable parts of Phoenix for women on their own. Evenings are quiet, and nightlife means patios and wine bars rather than clubs. It isn't walkable from end to end, so you'll need a car or rideshare between sights, but the central restaurant clusters are pleasant to stroll. The Camelback Mountain trailhead is nearby, and in summer hikes need to happen at dawn.

The Biltmore area is the resort-like corner of Phoenix, with shopping, dining and good security. It is comfortable but car-dependent and quiet at night.
The Melrose District is a small strip of vintage shopping, murals and some of the city's friendlier bars. It is relaxed and inclusive, but dark and quiet away from the strip, so plan your rides.
Midtown mixes museums, restaurants and walkable blocks along Central Avenue with a calm, residential feel. Food and transit are good, which makes it an easy choice for a first stay.
