A quiet, historic neighborhood with a handful of local bars and restaurants. It shows a less touristy side of the city, and a rideshare covers the trips in and out.
Monte Vista is a historic residential area northwest of downtown, with large early-1900s homes, oak-lined streets and a mix of locals, students and young professionals. It is calm for a daytime walk, and the main historic blocks are usually considered safe even in the evening. Food and nightlife cluster around North St. Mary's Street and the strip around it, where bars, patios and live music draw a younger crowd. It makes sense if you'd rather stay away from the tourist core. A rideshare is the easiest way to get here from downtown.

A laid-back, creative area with good food and patios, best for daytime walks and early-evening outings. Take rides late at night and stay on the busier streets.
The Pearl is the most polished evening area in San Antonio, with good food, strong lighting and easy solo seating. It costs more than other areas and isn't where locals go for nightlife, but it works well as a base.
A safe, quiet base for people who want calm streets, gardens and good meals more than nightlife. Downtown is a short ride away.
