A safe but suburban base with little local character. It works best for people with a car or travelling on business, and not for those who want to walk around.
Stone Oak is a suburb in the north of the city, made up of gated communities, shopping centers and a mix of chain and independent restaurants. Crime is low. Everything depends on a car or rideshare, and there is little to do on foot. It is very calm, with well-lit parking lots, sit-down restaurants and hotels. It suits business travelers, longer stays, or anyone who wants quiet and easy parking. The downside is the distance: about 20-30 minutes from downtown without traffic, and not much local character.

A safe, quiet base for people who want calm streets, gardens and good meals more than nightlife. Downtown is a short ride away.
The Pearl is the most polished evening area in San Antonio, with good food, strong lighting and easy solo seating. It costs more than other areas and isn't where locals go for nightlife, but it works well as a base.
A quiet, historic neighborhood with a handful of local bars and restaurants. It shows a less touristy side of the city, and a rideshare covers the trips in and out.
