North Park is a walkable neighborhood for food, coffee and craft beer, and it's easy to spend an evening here alone. It suits travelers who want a local feel, but it's farther from the beaches and downtown sights.
Craft breweries, independent coffee shops, vintage stores and murals define North Park, an inland neighborhood with a strong local food scene. The center is the intersection of University Avenue and 30th Street, where a historic theater and sign stand, and bars and restaurants spread out along both streets. The crowd is young and local rather than touristy, and evenings are casual. Streets are well lit around the main strips but get quiet and residential a block or two away, so stick to University and 30th at night. Eating and drinking alone is easy here, and downtown and Balboa Park are a short rideshare or bus ride away.

Little Italy is one of the better bases in San Diego for a woman on her own. It's walkable, full of restaurants and calmer than the Gaslamp. It's well lit and busy in the evening, though some homelessness on the outskirts is worth keeping in mind after dark.
Pacific Beach is a sociable beach neighborhood, with cafes and sunsets by day and a loud bar scene at night. It suits solo travelers who like a young, active atmosphere and plan around the late-night crowds.
La Jolla is among the safest and most scenic parts of San Diego, good for beach and coastline activities by day and a calm evening. It's expensive, works best with a car or rideshare, and is much quieter at night than downtown or Pacific Beach.
