Details

Midtown, around Siler Road, Rufina Street and Cerrillos Road, is Santa Fe's creative and industrial district. Former warehouses hold Meow Wolf's House of Eternal Return, breweries, distilleries, coffee roasters, galleries and music venues. It works well for an afternoon of cafes and craft beer. The area is spread out and built around cars, with wide roads, long blocks and parking lots, so it's less comfortable on foot at night than the Plaza. Venues are a short ride from each other, and a rideshare between them is the practical choice. Cerrillos Road itself has older motels and some stretches best avoided late at night, so check the exact location of a hotel before booking here.

The Plaza and downtown are the most convenient and best-lit base in Santa Fe, with museums, restaurants and hotels a short walk apart. The mood is calm rather than rowdy, and the main concern is how quiet the side streets get after dinner.
