Starland is Savannah's arts and indie district, with local cafes, breweries and shops, and it is best visited during the day or early evening. Keep to the Bull Street corridor, avoid the western edges, and use a rideshare after dark.
The Starland District sits south of Forsyth Park, centered on Bull Street between roughly 36th Street and Victory Drive, and is Savannah's arts and indie neighborhood. It has record shops, vintage stores, murals, galleries, craft breweries, a food-truck courtyard and a mix of SCAD students, artists and locals, with a more casual and less touristy feel than downtown. The Bull Street corridor is busy into the night and generally comfortable, with Starland Yard as the social anchor. The edges are different: the western streets toward Jefferson and Montgomery are known for crime and prostitution, and some blocks on West 38th Street are best avoided. Park near the busy strip and don't walk long distances from the main corridor late at night. A rideshare for the ride back to the Historic District is recommended after dark.

The Victorian District is known for its painted wooden houses and works well as a daytime walk. It is a mixed residential area that gets quiet after dark, so take a rideshare in the evening.
The southern Historic District and Forsyth Park are tree-lined and calmer than the riverfront, with a good selection of restaurants and cafes. It works well as a quieter base. The main cautions are the park's dark interior at night and car break-ins.
The northern Historic District is the easiest place to stay in Savannah, with restaurants, shops and squares within a few minutes' walk and good street lighting. It is touristy and crowded at night, so petty theft and rowdy bar crowds are the main concerns, and the quiet edges are best avoided after dark.
