Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Someone grabs your arm. A taxi goes off-route. A guy won't leave you alone. This free guide covers what to say and do.
Yunusabad is a safe residential area with lower prices than central Tashkent. Good infrastructure but you'll commute to tourist sites. Minimal English and limited restaurant options.
Yunusabad is a residential district with middle-class families, some expats, and business travelers. Tree-lined streets with modern apartment complexes, schools, and the City Center Orzu shopping complex. It doesn't have nightlife or tourist infrastructure, but you can see how regular Tashkent residents live. The area is safe day and night - you'll see families walking around late. Traditional Uzbek restaurants like the large Pilaf Center serve huge portions of plov, and there are some modern cafes like EVOS. English is uncommon here, so you'll need Google Translate for most conversations. Metro and buses connect to major tourist sites in 20-30 minutes. Food and accommodation cost less than central areas. If you want to save money and experience local life, and you don't mind being away from attractions, it works. Most people eat at home rather than going to restaurants in the evening.
