Da Nang, Vietnam
An Thuong has Western restaurants, craft beer bars, and coffee shops. English is widely spoken. Safe and social - good if you want familiar food and an easy social scene. You'll pay tourist prices.
An Thuong is where expats and backpackers end up in Da Nang. A few pedestrian streets with Western restaurants, craft beer bars, and coffee shops. You'll hear as much English as Vietnamese, and staff know how to deal with international customers. The area centers on An Thuong 1-4 pedestrian streets plus the main roads Le Quang Dao and Tran Bach Dang. Safe to walk around late at night - good lighting, people out until past midnight on weekends heading to dinner or bars. Eating alone is normal here. You'll see other travelers and expats reading or working on laptops while they eat. My Khe Beach is a few minutes away, so you can do beach in the morning and food scene at night. Everything costs more than local areas and it feels touristy, but you get Western food and English everywhere.
